Dak Lak, January 28 (VNA) - As the Lunar New Year 2025 approaches, the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak has rolled out meaningful initiatives to ensure a more prosperous and joyful celebration for policy beneficiaries, poor households, near-poor families, and ethnic minorities.
This Lunar New Year (Tet), the family of H’Yoan Nie from Ea Su village, Ea Pok town, Cu M’gar district, welcomes Tet in a brand-new home. Once living in a cramped and fragile house, burdened by poverty and the struggle of caring for children with critical illnesses, H’Yoan’s family has now found hope through the local government’s support to build a sturdy home.
“This year, my family is overjoyed with a new house. It gives us the strength to overcome challenges, escape poverty, and stabilise our lives,” H’Yoan Nie said.
In addition to housing support, thousands of Tet gift packages have been delivered directly to poor households and ethnic minorities in the province.
The Tet for Humanity programme, running from December 1, 2024, with its peak between January 7-27, 2025, aims to support 35,800 individuals in need, totaling over 18 billion VND (over 717,700 USD) in aid.
H’aăng Kpa, a 30-year-old mother in Ea Jin Hamlet, Cu Ne commune, Krong Buk district, expressed her gratitude after receiving a Tet gift for her family, including her son who suffers from congenital heart disease.
With 63,000 poor and near-poor households in the province, many from ethnic minority communities, Dak Lak has mobilised all social resources to ensure Tet gifts reach the most vulnerable families. The province has allocated tens of billions of VND from its budget, while political organisations, businesses, and benefactors have also contributed financially and materially.
Acording to Tran Thi Huong, Chairwoman of the Dak Lak Red Cross Society, thousands of gift packages, including rice, candies, and cooking oil, have been prepared to bring joy to disadvantaged families during Tet.
The provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee has been pivotal in fundraising efforts. According to Vice Chairwoman Nong Thi Thu, the provincial “Fund for the Poor” will allocate 775 million VND (over 30,900 USD) to provide 1,550 Tet gifts to ensure no family is left without support.
Vice Chairman of the Dak Lak People’s Committee Truong Cong Thai emphasised the collective efforts to bring warmth to the community, with tens of thousands of gifts distributed. Initiatives like House Renovation, Charity Tet Market, and Loving Spring events have also been organised to provide affordable or free essential goods, helping everyone enjoy the festive season./.
