Nearly 81,000 people visits Sa Pa on holiday

Sa Pa district in the mountainous province of Lao Cai welcomed a record of close to 81,000 visitors during the five-day national holiday from April 27 to May 1, up 18 percent from the same period last year.

LaoCai (VNA) – Sa Pa district in the mountainous province of Lao Caiwelcomed a record of close to 81,000 visitors during the five-day national holidayfrom April 27 to May 1, up 18 percent from the same period last year.

Morethan 75,000 domestic holiday-makers accounted for the lion’s share of thefigure. As a result, the Sa Pa national tourism site’s revenue exceeded 242billion VND (10.39 million USD) in the period, an annual increase of 200percent.

Localdestinations that attracted the largest number of tourists included thetourism-culture-entertainment complex Fansipan Legend, and the Cat Cat and HamRong tourism sites.

Located350km northwest of Hanoi, Sa Pa is 1,600m above sea level, with averagetemperatures of 15-18°C. The town is dominated by the Hoang Lien Son mountainrange, which is home to Indochina’s highest mountain of Fansipan at a height of3,142m above sea level.

SaPa has many natural scenic sites such as Ham Rong Mountain, Thac Bac (SilverWaterfall), Cau May (Rattan Bridge), Bamboo Forest and Ta Phin Cave. The hilltown is home to six main ethnic minority groups, including Kinh, Hmong, Dao,Tay, Day and Xa Pho with various traditional festivals and unique culturalpractices.

Thedistrict now houses nearly 700 lodging facilities, accommodating about 7,000rooms.

InApril alone, some 623,000 people visited Lao Cai, bringing the total number oftourists to the province in the first four months of 2019 to over 2 million, up119 percent year on year. Between January and April, Lao Cai earned more than8.47 trillion VND (363.7 million USD) from tourism, an annual rise of 72.1percent.-VNA
