Hanoi (VNA)ꦏ – Nearly 42,000 revolution contributors across Vietnam have received new or renovated homes in the lead-up to War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27), as part of a nationwide campaign to eliminate substandard housing and honor those who sacrificed for the nation.

For Dinh Xuan Luu’s family in Kim Phu commune in the central province of Quang Tri, the dream of a safe, permanent home is no longer out of reach. With support from the local authorities and youth union, their once dilapidated, rusted tin-roofed house has been replaced by a newly renovated home with a bright red-tiled roof. In nearby Ka Ai village, Ho Thi Mang, an elderly woman of the Van Kieu ethnic minority group, recently moved into her new house. “During the rainy season, I was always afraid to sleep. I never thought I’d live in a brick house with a tile roof,” she said. This July, villages across Quang Tri’s mountainous areas have been bustling with the sounds of hammers and saws, as hundreds of new homes are being built. Behind each work is a story of collective effort by officials, soldiers, youth union members, and neighbours, who come together to build warm, dignified homes for those in need. Meanwhile, in the northern province of Tuyen Quang, after heavy rains earlier this month, Lam Thi Thang in Hoa An commune much more treasures a solidly built house. Her new house has been completed in just over two months through a local campaign to eliminate unsafe houses. “I’m deeply grateful to the Party, the State, local authorities, and the community,” she said. Each newly built house stands as more than just a roof overhead—it is a symbol of national gratitude and community compassion, echoing the Vietnamese value of “remembering the source when drinking water”. The nationwide campaign to eliminate substandard houses has been implemented with urgency and unity. As of July 19, nearly 42,000 families of revolutionary contributors had received housing support. Among them, 35,031 houses have been completed, and 6,812 are in final construction stages. They are expected to be completed ahead War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day on July 27. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on ministries and provinces to fulfill the goal of eradicating unsafe houses nationwide by August 31, with support for revolution contributors and martyrs’ families to be completed before July 24. Nguyen Si Dung, a member of the PM's Policy Advisory Council, said: “This is not just a policy, it is a national mission. It’s a call to action for every individual and organisation. No contribution is too small when it comes from the heart.”/.
