Hanoi (VNA)ไ - A fire caused by New Year firecrackers in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, on January 1 left at least two dead and 380 others injured while gutting nearly 1,000 shanties despite rain and the Government’s warning campaign, an official said.
According to firefighters, the blaze made about 3,000 people in Manila’s Tondo slum district homeless.
The Filipino people are allowed to buy and stock firecrackers at their homes, increasing the risks of fires and explosions, especially during festivals.-VNA
