Hanoi, (VNA) – The National Press Festivalkicked off at the Hanoi Museum in Tu Liem district, Hanoi, on March 16 underthe theme of “Vietnamese press accompanies the nation in renewal.”
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)Nguyen Phu Trong sent a flower basket to the event.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime MinisterVu Duc Dam said with larger scale and diverse, attractive activities, thisyear’s event reflects the development of the domestic press and itscontributions to the nation’s completion of socio-economic targets in 2017, aswell as to building the Party and the Government, ensuring political security,and promoting the land and people of Vietnam to the world.
The official expressed his belief that in 2018, thepress will make more reforms and continue to accompany the nation indevelopment.
Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association(VJA) Thuan Huu, who is also head of the steering board of the festival, saidthe event attracts 55 units from the VJA and its branches, journalism traininginstitutes, and companies specialising in press equipment.
A highlight at the festival is the four thematicdisplays - “The press with Partybuilding,” “The press with National Assembly and voters,” “The press with thebuilding of an integrated, development-facilitating and action-orientedGovernment,” and “Ethics of journalists.”
The festival also features a forum on the press’srole in Government building, along with numerous exchanges, seminars, photo andpainting exhibitions, and art performances.
On this occasion, the organisation board will grantawards to outstanding press research works for the first time, besidestraditional prizes.
The festival is jointly held by the VJA, the HanoiPeople’s Committee, the CPV Central Committee’s Information and EducationCommission, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and Ministry of Culture,Sports and Tourism.

In the context where AI dominates and produces vast volumes of content, the only sustainable path forward for journalism is to focus on high-quality content and core values. Journalism must redefine its mission - not to report the fastest, but to provide the most profound and trustworthy value.

During his stay in China’s Guangzhou city from 1924 to 1927 to prepare for the establishment of a Communist Party to lead Vietnam’s revolution, President Ho Chi Minh founded “Thanh nien” newspaper and released its first issue on June 21, 1925.

PM Chinh lauded the press’s historic role in the nation’s fight for independence and its ongoing process of national development, affirming that the Government always highly appreciates the close partnership and steadfast support of press agencies and journalists nationwide.
In recent decades, Vietnam’s mainstream media has become a reliable and persuasive channel for showcasing the nation’s development policies and achievements, especially in economic matters, according to a senior assistant editor at the Times of India.
A hub for sharing best practices, the event aims to forge solutions for financial sustainability, public media contracts, audience engagement, content innovation, and newsroom restructuring. It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.
From “Thanh nien”, Vietnam’s first revolutionary newspaper founded by Nguyen Ai Quoc (later President Ho Chi Minh) on June 21, 1925, the revolutionary press has remained devoted to its sacred missions -accompanying the nation, serving the Fatherland, and working for the people.
