National plan designed to cope with radiation, nuclear incidents

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued a national plan to cope with radiation and nuclear incidents, aiming to set up a system with clear responsibility allocation as well as management and coordination mechanisms among organisations and individuals involving in the work.

Hanoi (VNA) –Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued a national plan to cope with radiationand nuclear incidents, aiming to set up a system with clear responsibilityallocation as well as management and coordination mechanisms among organisationsand individuals involving in the work.

The plan will ensure the preparation of technicalinfrastructure, equipment, tools and human resources for timely and effective responseto the incidents, thus minimising loss in human, environment and property.

It will also make sure the direction andmanagement over the settlement of the incidents in a systematic, specific, proactiveand timely principle that is also suitable to real developments of theincidents.

The national organisation system for the workcomprises the National Committee for responding to incidents, natural disasters,and search and rescue, which acts as an interdisciplinary coordinator forincident response at national, regional and international scale, a site commandstation, national organisations engaging in the incidents, and technicalsupporting teams directed by the committee.

An information collecting system will berun by the Ministry of Science and Technology, which will gather information onincidents happening outside Vietnam and posing risks to people and the environmentin the country through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well asinformation exchange channels among countries or the national system for environmentradiation monitoring and warning.

The ministry will verify the accuracy ofthe information and evaluate the nature and danger level of the incidents, thusseeking measures to respond to them and request for international help.

The ministry must report to the NationalCommittee for responding to incidents, natural disasters, and search and rescuein case of deploying responses to the incidents or asking for foreign support.
 
According to the plan, an officialannouncement on the ending of actions responding to the incidents will be madeto the public when seven conditions are satisfied, including measures to ensuresafety for the community after the actions terminated.-VNA

PM calls for cooperation with Swede🦄n in nuclear energy technology

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
