National Assembly to convene 5th session on May 21
The 14th-tenure National Assembly’s fifth session will open in Hanoi on May 21, with eight draft laws and one draft resolution expected to be passed during the event which will last for 20 working days.
Hanoi (VNA) – The 14th-tenure National Assembly’s fifthsession will open in Hanoi on May 21, with eight draft laws and one draftresolution expected to be passed during the event which will last for 20working days.
Speaking at a press conference on May 19, NA GeneralSecretary and head of the NA Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc said that lawmakers willspend 12 days to debate and adopt thedraft Law on Denunciation (revised), Law on Special Administrative and EconomicUnits, Law on Measurement and Maps, Law on Competition (revised), Law on CyberSecurity, Law on National Defence (revised), Law on amendments and supplementsto several articles of the Law on Physical Activity and Sports, and Law onamendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Planning, togetherwith the resolution on the NA’s supervision programme and the establishment ofa specialised supervision group in 2019.
Eight other bills will be tabled for discussion, which are theLaw on Corruption Prevention (revised), Law on the People’s Public SecurityForce, Law on Husbandry, Law on Cultivation, Law on amendments and supplementsto several articles of the Law on Amnesty, Law on Marine Police, Law onamendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Education, and Lawon amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on HigherEducation.
In addition, the NA will conduct supreme supervision of theimplementation of policies and laws on the use and management of State capitaland assets in enterprises and the equitisation of State-owned enterprise during2011-2016.
The NA will consider and make decisions on several importantissues, including a report assessing the implementation of socio-economicdevelopment and State budget plans in 2017 and the first months of 2018, theratification of 2016 State budget balance, and personnel work.
Phuc said that the fifth session takes place in the middleof 2018 – an important year of the 2016-2021 tenure.
Therefore, the session’s working agenda is of significance,contributing to continued successful implementation of the Party, NationalAssembly and Government’s resolutions, as well as rapid and sustainablesocio-economic development. According to the NA General Secretary, the legislative bodywill continue to reform the question-&-answer activity at the upcomingsession in the direction of increasing dialogue and face-to-face debate.
A new feature of the upcoming session is that the NA willissue a general resolution covering all issues discussed and decided at thesession, he added.-VNA
