Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s lawmakers voted to recognise the rights of people who underwent gender reassignment surgeries during a National Assembly (NA) session that took place on November 24 in Hanoi. 

Regarding this particular issue, the NA Standing Committee stressed the importance of the country's laws to recognise and respond to the demands of this social group, as well as to comply with international legal standards. 

With 282 out of 366 votes in favour, the NA decided that those who underwent gender reassignment surgeries would not just be allowed to, but have a legal obligation to make changes to their personal records at Government agencies. They also retained all rights stipulated under the country's laws.

The National Assembly, the 13th tenure, opened its 10th session and the last in 2015 in Hanoi on October 20. 

The session, scheduled to last 31 days, focuses on building laws to 𓆏implement the 2013 Constitution and monitoring, assessing and deciding important socio-economic issues.-VNA
