NA Standing Committee’s 49th session opens

The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 49th session in Hanoi on October 12 afternoon to prepare contents to be submitted to the NA’s 10th session.

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committeeconvened its 49th session in Hanoi on October 12 afternoon to prepare contentsto be submitted to the NA’s 10th session.

In her opening remarks, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Nganasked the legislature’s offices and the Government’s offices to closely coordinatein completing reports, draft resolutions and draft laws after each part of theworking agenda finishes to in time submit them to the NA, as the legislativebody’s 10th session will open right after the NA Standing Committee concludesits 49th session.

After the opening ceremony, the NA Standing Committeeconducted the supervision over the implementation of free trade agreements(FTAs) to which Vietnam is a signatory under the chair of NA Vice ChairwomanTong Thi Phong.

The standing committee heard a report by Nguyen Van Giau,Head of the NA Committee for External Relations and deputy head of the NAStanding Committee’s supervision delegation.

NA Vice Chairmen Phung Quoc Hien and Uong Chu Luu, Ministerof Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Head of the NA Office – NA GeneralSecretary Nguyen Hanh Phuc, Head of the NA Committee for Culture, Education,Youth, Adolescents and Children Phan Thanh Binh, and Head of the NA Committeefor Science, Technology and Environment Phan Xuan Dung also shared theiropinions on this issue.

Tong Thi Phong highly valued results of the implementationof FTAs, adding that taking part in FTAs is sound, timely and in line with theforeign policy of multilateralisation and diversification.

The NA Standing Committee’s 49th session will last untilOctober 15 morning. During the session, the committee is set to discuss somedebatable issues of the draft revised law on environmental protection and thelaw on export and import tariffs, a draft NA resolution on the settlement ofproblems relating to land for denfence and security purposes, and another NAresolution on the organisation of urban administration in Ho Chi Minh City.

Members will look into reports on the implementation ofsocio-economic development, State budget and public investment plans for 2020and 2016-2020 and the draft plans for 2021 and 2021-2025.

A report on the implementation of the economic restructuringplan for 2016-2020, another on the realisation of the NA’s Resolution100/2015/QH13 that approved investment policies for the national targetprogrammes in the 2016-2020 period, and a report summarising voters andpeople’s opinions submitted to the NA’s 10th session will also among those puton the table./.
