Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly (NA) StandingCommittee on September 15 gave opinion on a Government’s report onanti-corruption activities in 2022.
According to the report, this year, the fight against corruption has continued to be strengthened with many importantresults, anti-corruption measures been applied comprehensively.
The inspection authorities have so far implemented 5,800 administrativeand 115,122 professional cases, suggesting the completion of mechanisms,policies and legal regulations in many areas, and discovering many wrongdoings involving over 51.65 trillion VND (2.18 billion USD) and more than 12,000 hectares of land. Thesector proposed the retrieval of 21.47 trillion VND and administrativedisciplines on 1,777 collectives and 4,726 individuals.
The State Audit of Vietnam also recommended the financialsettlement on 56.72 trillion VND, and transfer nine cases with signs of wrongdoingsto the police.
Meanwhile, the People's Procuracy at all levels received andhandled 416 cases involving 1,095 defendants. The People's Courts at all levelssettled 498 cases with 1,235 defendants, the report said.
Head of the NA Judicial Committee Le Thi Nga agreed withassessments given in the report, holding that this year, the number of economiccrimes and corruption associated with "group interests" tends toincrease, with many leaving extremely serious consequences, especially in theareas of health care, land, bidding, and securities.
She also pointed to a number of limitations in anti-corruption activities, includingthe slow institutionalisation of policies and measures to prevent and combat corruptionand negative phenomena, and insufficient attention to power control.
The committee requested the Government to review, evaluateand fully identify the limitations and causes of the shortcomings to forecastthe corruption situation and seek breakthrough solutions for effectiveprevention and control of corruption./.
The Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee has issued Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW requesting the acceleration of investigations and handling of serious and complex corruption cases which have drawn great public attention.
The Standing Board of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption held a meeting in Hanoi on April 27 to discuss cases that it has followed and define tasks for the time to come.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
