NA Standing Committee convenes 23rd session in Hanoi

The 23rd session of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee commenced in Hanoi on April 10 to mull over important issues in preparation for the upcoming fifth meeting of the legislature in May.

– The 23rd session of theNational Assembly (NA) Standing Committee commenced in Hanoi on April 10 tomull over important issues in preparation for the upcoming fifth meeting of thelegislature in May.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, NA ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the Government proposed adding four bills to theagenda of the 23rd meeting, but it had sent documents for only one bill as of April9.

Chairwoman Ngan asked the Government’s relevantagencies to seriously learn from this mistake. In addition, the NAStanding Committee will not consider two other bills at this session, which arethe draft Law on Population and the project on establishing three specialeconomic-administrative units of Van Don, Bac Van Phong, and Phu Quoc, Ngansaid, explaining that the bill on population needs more adjustment and theproject on establishing three special economic-administrative units must waitfor the adoption of a law on special economic-administrative units.

She concluded that the NAStanding Committee’s 23rd session will give feedback on 8 draft laws,which are the Law on Coast Guards, the draft revised Law on Prevention andCombat of Corruption, Law on Amnesty, Law on Urban Development and Management,Law on Husbandry, Law on Cultivation, Law on Population, and Law on SpecialAdministrative-Economic Units.

They will also give opinions on the programmebuilding law and ordinances in 2019, preparations for the fifth meeting of thelegislature, and reports on the management and use of State capital and propertyin businesses and the equitisation of State-owned enterprises in 2011-2016, andon the practice of thrift and wastefulness prevention in 2017.

♌ Lawmakers will consider the establishment ofadministrative units in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau and theCentral Highlands province of Lam Dong.

The session is scheduledto run until April 17. The same day, the NAStanding Committee gave opinions to the bill on Vietnam Coast Guard, which wasan upgrade of the Ordinance on the Vietnam Coast Guard.-VNA
