Can Tho (VNA) ꦡ- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man received visiting First Vice President of the Cambodian Senate Ouch Borith in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on January 22.

The top legislator congratulated Ouch Borith on his election as First Vice President of the Cambodian Senate in November 2024 and expressed his confidence that in his new role, the Cambodian official will continue contributing to the solidarity, friendly neighbourliness, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. Praising Cambodia's recent achievements, Man said he believes that under the visionary leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the Cambodian Senate, led by President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the country will achieve more significant milestones and enhance its regional and global standing. Reflecting on his visit to Cambodia in November 2024, the NA Chairman shared his appreciation for the hospitality extended by Cambodian leaders, including King Norodom Sihamoni, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and other senior officials. He also recalled his participation in major events hosted by Cambodia and expressed his honour at receiving the Royal Order of Sahametrei (The Grand Cross) of Cambodia.
For his part, Ouch Borith, who is in Vietnam for the Francophone Parliamentary Forum on Sustainable Agriculture, Food Security, and Climate Change and the Meeting of the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly (APF)'s Executive Committee, stressed the importance of these events, and his wish to enhancing parliamentary and people-to-people relations between the two nations. He thanked Vietnam for its support during Cambodia’s major events in 2024, recognising it as a testament to the strong partnership between the two countries. The Cambodian official highlighted recent strategic reforms led by Senate President Hun Sen, focusing on two key priorities. The first is meeting public needs by strengthening ties with local councils, ensuring policies align with the people’s interests. The second is enhancing international legislative cooperation to promote peace, collaboration, and development on a global scale.
Cambodia always remembers Vietnam’s whole-hearted support for the neighbour in escaping from the Pol Pot genocidal regime in the past as well as for its ongoing development efforts, he stressed. The two sides shared the delight at the growth of Vietnam-Cambodia relations with regular exchanges of high-level delegations. They highlighted the need for closer cooperation with Laos to ensure the sustainable development of the Indochinese region, contributing to regional peace and prosperity. Man reaffirmed Vietnam always attaches importance to and gives top priority to consolidating and developing the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between the two nations. He also expressed support for an independent, peaceful, and prosperous Cambodia that plays an active role on the global stage.
Both sides pledged to build on past successes, enhance legislative collaboration, and oversee the implementation of bilateral agreements. They also committed to greater coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums./.
