Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly continued the agenda of itsongoing sixth session on November 19 under the chair of Chairwoman Nguyen ThiKim Ngan.

In themorning, lawmakers debated a draft revision of the Law on the Execution ofCriminal Judgments.

Themajority agreed on the necessity to promulgate the law to continueinstitutionalising the Party’s resolutions on judicial reform, realising the2013 constitution on human rights and citizens’ basic rights and obligations,addressing weaknesses of the existing law, and ensuring a consensus with otherlaws and international conventions to which Vietnam is a member.

Deputiesfocused discussion on the law’s adjustment scale, the timeframe of adopting thelaw, the organisation of production zones and vocational training outsideprisons, the rights and obligations of prisoners, the enforcement of sanctionson commercial legal entities, and included the conditional release of convictsbefore the ending of prison terms, among others.

In theafternoon, the legislature approved five laws, including the revised Law onAmnesty, the Law on Crop Production, the Law on Animal Husbandry, the Law on theVietnam Coast Guard, and the Law on amendments and supplements to a number ofarticles of the Law on Higher Education, all with large majority yes votes. –VNA
