NA Chairwoman urges measures to boost socio-economic development

Hanoi (VNA) – Opening the 10th session of the NationalAssembly in Hanoi on October 20, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan asked lawmakersto devise effective measures and orientations to bolster sustainable socio-economicdevelopment.

Addressing the event, Chairwoman Ngan said the session will compriseonline and plenary meetings, during which the legislature will reviewsocio-economic performance and the State budget in 2020, decide on a socio-economicdevelopment plan and State budget estimates, and allocate the State budget for2021.

Legislators are also due to look into the implementation of NAresolutions on socio-economic development plans, economic restructuring,national finance, and 2016-2020 public investment.

Several socio-economic targets were not met this year due to the impactof COVID-19, global economic crises, and flooding. The NA was therefore requiredto forecast the global socio-economic-political situation to improve people’slives, maintain socio-political stability, firmly safeguard independence andterritorial integrity, and enhance friendship with countries and internationalorganisations.

The NA is also scheduled to adopt seven bills and three draftresolutions and provide opinions on three draft laws to better ensure human andcitizen rights, meeting requirements for socio-economic development and globalintegration in the new era.

According to Ngan, the adoption of the revised Law on Residency and Lawon Environmental Protection will guarantee the exercising of constitutionalrights to freedom of residency.

The legislature will also approve a resolution on participating in UN peacekeepingmissions, reflecting the Party and State’s long-term political determination inthis regard.

Lawmakers will also convene Q&A sessions on the implementation of NAresolutions on thematic supervision, and consider reports on public feedbacksent to the 10th session and the outcomes of the settlement ofvoters’ suggestions sent to the 9th session.

They will also offer opinions on draft documents for submission to the13th National Party Congress, decide on the timing of elections ofdeputies to the 15th NA and People’s Councils for the 2021-2026tenure, and discuss personnel tasks and other important issues.

According to the top legislator, Vietnam’s economic growth is estimatedat more than 2 percent this year thanks to the Party’s sound leadership,drastic and flexible directions from the Government, and the efforts of theentire political system.

She also lauded the Government, ministries, agencies, local authorities,and the armed forces for recent and ongoing search and rescue efforts in thecentral region.

Later, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented a report on theimplementation of socio-economic development plans for 2020 and for 2016-2020, andmajor tasks and goals for 2021-2025 socio-economic development.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran ThanhMan delivered a report collecting public opinions sent to the 10th session.

Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee’s Ombudsman CommitteeDuong Thanh Binh presented a report on the outcomes of overseeing thesettlement of voters’ complaints sent to the ninth session./.
