Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man hailed NA agencies for strong performance in 2024 with the completion of a heavy workload throughout the year while chairing a meeting to review their operations in Hanoi on December 17.

NA General Secretary and head of the NA Office Le Quang Tung reported at the meeting that in 2024, the agencies showed close coordination and completed a significant amount of work.

As part of the efforts to review the implementation of the 12th Party Central Committee’s Resolution 18-NQ/TW on on further renewal and restructuring of political system for greater efficiency at the legislature, the NA established a Steering Committee for reviewing the resolution and issued several documents, including a plan for the work.

The NA Office gave advice on the issuance of 48 documents assigning tasks for implementing the conclusions of the key Party and State leaders. So far, the agencies have completed 93 out of 109 tasks in the action programme of the Party Delegation to the NA for implementing the 13th National Party Congress Resolution and 73 out of 103 tasks for realising Party directives, resolutions, conclusions, regulations, notices, and instructions.

Regarding the organisation of NA sessions and NA Standing Committee meetings, the agencies served two regular sessions, four extraordinary sessions, and supported the adoption of 31 laws and 64 resolutions and the discussion of 21 other bills.

They also fulfilled 26 legislative tasks as per the Standing Committee’s plan, bringing the total number of tasks accomplished to 140 out of 156, achieving 89.7%.

NA Chairman Man said that despite challenges in 2024, including heavy losses caused by Typhoon Yagi, the country’s socio-economic situation has remained positive, with stable macro-economy, controlled inflation, and ensured social welfare. The GDP growth for the year is expected to reach 7%, with all 15 socio-economic indicators being achieved or surpassed. Foreign relations have been strengthened, and the fight against corruption, wastefulness, and other negative phenomena have been ramped up, solidifying public trust in the Party and State.

He recognised the contributions of the NA to these results by building laws, conducting supreme supervision and deciding on important matters of the country.

Particularly, at the seventh and eighth sessions, the legislature untangled many knots in socio-economic development by approving many laws, he said, underlining that important decisions were made to improve infrastructure and fully utilise resources, including historical decisions such as passing the investment policy for the North-South high-speed railway project and the resumption of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant, and adjusting the investment policy for the Long Thanh International Airport project.

At the eighth session, the NA approved 18 laws and 21 resolutions with high approval rates, he added.

The top legislator lauded the efforts of all officials and staff of the NA agencies, the NA Standing Committee’s bodies and the NA Office throughout the year.

He stressed the need to make good preparations for the ninth and tenth sessions, and the extraordinary session in February 2025, as well as the NA Standing Committee’s 41st and 42nd meetings in January and February 2025.

ꦐ He urged accelarating the review of Resolution No 18-NQ/TW, issued by the 12th Party Central Committee in 2017, on apparatus streamlining and promptly finalising restructuring plans. A renovated mindset in law-building is crucial, he stated, stressing the need to strengthen supervision activities and speed up administrative reform./.
