Myanmar’s state counselor visits Thailand

Hanoi (VNA)ౠ - Myanmar State Counselor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi left Yangon on June 23 on a visit to Thailand at the official invitation of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha.

According to the Thai Foreign Ministry, Aung San Suu Kyi is scheduled to meet with Myanmar migrant workers at Talay market, the largest seafood market in Samut Sakhon province right after her arrival.
After delivering a speech entitled “Myanmar, ASEAN and the World: The Way Forward” to Thai students on June 24, the Myanmar official will hold talks with Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha. They will focus on discussions on Myanmar migrant labourers and the repatriation of over 100,000 refugees at nine camps in Thailand. She will also visit the temporary shelter for displaced Myanmar people in Ratchaburi province on June 25 and concluded her trip two days later.
San Suu Kyi’s trip came more than a month after the Thai Prime Minister’s special envoy and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai visited Myanmar on May 8-9, during which the two nations pledged to foster bilateral relations and economic cooperation in all sectors. Currently, there are 1.59 million registered Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand.-VNA
