Myanmar’s peace conference agrees on 37 principles
All parties of Myanmar’s second Peace Conference agreed to incorporate 37 adopted principles under four sectors into the union agreement in Nay Pyi Taw on May 29.
Hanoi (VNA) – All parties of Myanmar’s second Peace Conference,or the 21st Panglong Peace Conference, agreed to incorporate 37 adoptedprinciples under four sectors into the union agreement in Nay Pyi Taw on May 29,the last day of the event.
According to Xinhua news agency, the 37 adopted principles, proposed bythe Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) and resulting from state andregional level political dialogue, comprise 12 with the political sector, 11 withthe economic sector, four with the social sector and 10 with the land andenvironment sector.
♒ The principles, in accordance with the Nationwide Ceasefire Accord(NCA), were signed by representatives of participating parties, which are thegovernment, the parliament, the military, cease-fired armed ethnic groups andpolitical parties.
Myanmar’sPeace Conference this year is participated by State Counsellor San Suu Kyi,Deputy Commander in chief of Myanmar Armed Forces Soe Win and 15 armed groups,including eight signatories to the NCA and seven non-signatories. The firstconference, held in late August 2016, drew the participation of 1,800 delegateswho discussed a national political dialogue framework aimed at ending conflictsbetween the government’s military and ethnic armed groups in the past sevendecades.-VNA
The second meeting of the 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference of Myanmar opened in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on May 24, nine months after the first in August 2016.
