Yangon(VNA) - Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw on January 4 pledged to build ademocratic federal republic in accordance with the results of the politicaldialogues, stressing the need for joint efforts to create a suitableconstitution for the country.

In his message onthe occasion of the 70th anniversary of the country’s Independence Day, U HtinKyaw reviewed the outcomes of the second meeting of the 21st Century PanglongPeace Conference in May 2017 with agreements reached regarding some basicprinciples of a federal structure.

He asked for non-stopefforts in areas of education, health, economic reform and foreign investment, focusingon improving socio-economic status of the people.

National developmentmight go together with political stability, prosperity and unity among allethnic groups, he noted, stressing that the national unity is the most criticalelement in the history of struggle for independence.

He called on the Government and people to strive for an undivided country, anend to all armed conflicts and eternal peace with respect of human rights.

Myanmarbecame a British colony in the late 19th century, and regained its independenceand sovereignty on January 4, 1948.-VNA
