Myanmar agrees to facilitate Vietnamese investments

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh asked the Government of Myanmar to consider simplifying administrative procedures and granting investment licences to Vietnamese businesses in the near future.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh asked theGovernment of Myanmar to consider simplifying administrative proceduresand granting investment licences to Vietnamese businesses in the nearfuture while meeting with Myanmar President U Thein Sein andForeign Minister UWunna Maung Lwin in Nay Pyi Taw on May 28.

The meetings took place ahead of the 8th session of the JointCommittee on cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar .

The Vietnamese official highlighted the Vietnam Rubber Group’s projectin Bago region, the VinaCapital Group’s establishment of an agriculturecomplex, and the Bank for Development and Investment of Vietnam(BIDV)’s launch of its branch in Myanmar.

Thetwo host leaders spoke highly of the visit by Deputy PM Pham Binh Minhin celebration of the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomaticrelations, adding that its success will help propel bilateralcooperation forward.

The hosts expressed theirsatisfaction with the sound political and diplomatic ties between thetwo countries, and consented to increasing high-level delegationexchanges and promoting the efficiency of the current cooperationmechanism.

They confirmed that Myanmar treasures its time-honoured friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam .

President U Thein Sein agreed to increase Vietnam-Myanmar cooperationin fields with potential, such as seafood, oil and gas, and informationcommunication technology, while expanding the mutually beneficialcooperation efforts in agricultural exports, vocational training andtourism.

The President revealed that the Governmentof Myanmar is considering granting an investment licence to BIDV to openits branch in Myanmar in order to facilitate trade between the twocountries.

The hosts and guest agreed to continueworking together at regional and international forums, as well asworking with other Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) memberstates to establish the ASEAN Community in late 2015.

This will contribute to maintaining the bloc’s central role inregional issues, including the East Sea related ones, they said.-VNA
