My Son Sanctuary to host sculpture park

The central province plans to build a sculpture park in the My Son Sanctuary to honour people for their contributions to preserving and restoring its cultural heritages, earning them the UNESCO recognition.

Quang Nam (VNA) - The central province plans to build a sculpture park in the My SonSanctuary to honour people for their contributions to preserving and restoringits cultural heritages, earning them the UNESCO recognition.

Chairman of Duy Xuyen district’s People’s Committee Nguyen Cong Dungsaid the park will be designed as a destination for tourists when visitingCham towers complex in My Son.

‘We have been collecting opinions and ideas in making an officialdesign for the park. It will serve as a part of introduction of the My SonSanctuary and history of preservation of the heritage,” Dung said.

“The best design will be selected for commencing the park laterthis year,” he said.

Dung said the first four famous people featured in the spark willbe French archeologist Henri Parmentier (1870-1949), Polish archaeologist andarchitect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, known as ‘Kazik’, former Secretary of theParty Committee of Quang Nam-Da Nang province (now Da Nang city and Quang Nam province)Ho Nghinh (1915-2007), and Nguyen Xuan Dong (1907-86).

A 2.5m tall statue of Kazik has been installed at 138 Tran PhuStreet in Hoi An city to honour his work on restoring the ancient town of HoiAn, My Son Sanctuary and Complex of Hue Monuments.

Quang Nam has also planned to build a garden of statues in the TamKy Museum to honour 33 famous natives.

The UNESCO-recognised My Son Sanctuary, 70km southwest of Da Nang,hosted nearly 200,000 tourists, including 155,000 foreigners, in the first halfthis year.

Environmentally-friendly battery powered cars are being used toserve tourists visiting the Cham towers.-VNA
