Most Filipinos show support for anti-drug campaign

Most people in the Philippines showed their support for the anti-drug campaign of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, according to a latest survey launched by Pulse Asia Inc.

Hanoi (VNA) – Most people in the Philippines showed their supportfor the anti-drug campaign of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, accordingto a latest survey launched by Pulse Asia Inc.

The survey, conducted from September 24 to 30, showed that 88 percent of 1,200 respondentsin the country support Duterte’s fight against drugs, while only two percentare not supportive and nine percent are unable to say if they support or do notsupport.

Ernesto Abella, spokesperson of the Philippine President said the government ispleased with the result of the survey, adding this goes to show that the peopleappreciate the administration's efforts to reduce the incidence of crime and makethe streets safer and the communities more peaceful.

Last week, President Duterte handed over all anti-drug operations to thePhilippine Drug Enforcement Agency following criticism on the implementation ofpolice’s anti-drug campaign.

The Philippine government will focus on catching drug barons and drug-relatedpoliticians, preventing imports of drug to the Philippines or drug-makingactivities in localities.

Tacklingcrime, especially drug crime, has been the top priority of President Duterte.According to statistics, police have killed 9,000 people in the drug crackdownsince Duterte assumed power in June, 2016.-VNA
