Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency. - Party General Secretary To Lam has lauded Party committees and inspection commissions at all levels for their achievements in the Party inspection and supervision work since the beginning of the tenure and throughout 2024, saying that they have been contributing to fortifying the Party building and rectification, ensuring a strong and clean political system and bolstering the trust of officials, Party members and citizens in the Party.

General Secretary Lam made the praise while chairing the national conference of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat in Hanoi on December 19. The hybrid event was connected with 63 locations from the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission, municipal and provincial Party committees and those under the centrally-run agencies. - Party General Secretary To Lam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, hosted a reception in Hanoi on December 19 for Chinese Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Dong Jun and a delegation from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) that are in Vietnam for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the All People's Defence Festival (December 22).

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, head of the Government Steering Committee for summarising the implementation of Resolution 18-NQ/TW of the 12th Party Central Committee, which seeks to streamline the political system for greater efficiency and effectiveness, chaired the fifth meeting of the committee in Hanoi on December 19.

At the meeting, members of the committee discussed a draft proposal on concluding the tasks of the Government Party Civil Affairs Committee and establishing a Government Party Organisation directly under the Party Central Committee, as well as the functions, tasks, power and structure of the new Party Government Organisation, its Executive Committee and Standing Board. - Vietnam's candidature for re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2026–2028 tenure is a continuation of its positive contributions, strong commitment and readiness to support collective efforts of the international community, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang has said.

At the ministry’s regular press conference in Hanoi on December 19, Hang said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet announced Vietnam's candidacy for re-election to the UNHRC for the 2026–2028 tenure at the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN in New York on December 12. - Vietnam will be the standout among the top six ASEAN economies (ASEAN-6), growing at a faster pace relative to its peers during the next few years, according to the Oxford Economics, a global economic advisory firm.

It forecast Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth will reach 6.7% this year and 6.5% next year, driven by a strong manufacturing sector and a rapid recovery in domestic demand. A key source of growth for Vietnam next year will be its manufacturing exports. Read full story

- Japan has invested in 5,369 projects worth 76.76 billion USD in Vietnam as of the end of the second quarter this year, making it the third largest foreign investor in the country, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van told the 9th Vietnam-Japan Conference on Construction in Hanoi on December 19.

Co-hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), the event aimed to advance bilateral cooperation in developing quality housing and technical infrastructure.
