More Vietnamese volunteer soldiers’ remains repatriated from Cambodia

Long An (VNA) – The provincial Steering Committeefor search, collection and identification of fallen soꦡldiers’ remains (SteeringCommittee 515) in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on January 25 held aceremony at Binh Hiep international border gate to receive 34 boxes of remainsof Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in thebattlefields in Cambodia during wartime.
The remains were found in Cambodia’s Pailin, Battambang and Svayprovinces during the first phase in the 2023-2024 dryseason. Search activities were conducted at 62 locations, and the construction of an area to worship and keep remainsof Vietnamese soldiers and experts in the Pailin military sub-region started. Since 2001, a team in charge of the work has searched, gathered and repatriated remains of 2,401 martyrs./.
The Vietnamese Consulate General in Luang Prabang and the military high command of the Lao northern province on October 19 co-organised a meeting to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in Laos (October 30, 1949 – 2023).
The Vietnamese and Cambodian governments on October 24 agreed to maintain their close coordination and increase efficiency of bilateral cooperation in the search for, gathering and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Cambodia during the wartime.
The assistance provided by Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts to Laos in the past is priceless, helping foster the cooperative relations and friendship between the two nations, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security of Laos, Gen. Vilay Lakhamphong, has stated.
Vietnamese volunteer soldiers had an important role to play in Cambodia’s victory over the genocidal Pol Pot regime on January 7, 1979, helping save the lives of more than five million victims of the most brutal regime in the human history, Professor Sombo Manara from the Pannasatra University of Cambodia told the Vietnam News Agency.
Sok Eysan, a spokesman of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), on January 7 highlighted the important role by Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in Cambodia's victory over the Pol Pot genocidal regime 45 years ago, saying that they helped liberate the Cambodian people from the genocidal regime swiftly in a timely manner.
With strong support from local authorities, businesses, organisations, and residents, the province has successfully built or repaired 10,707 homes for disadvantaged households, including war veterans, families of martyrs, ethnic minority people, and low-income residents.

It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.
