More than 3,000 opinions, petitions sent to National Assembly ahead of 5th session

Voters and people nationwide have sent more than 3,000 opinions and petitions to the National Assembly through local delegations of NA deputies and the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s local chapters, ahead of the NA’s 5th session.

Hanoi (VNA) – Voters and people nationwide have sent more than3,000 opinions and petitions to the National Assembly through local delegationsof NA deputies and the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s local chapters, ahead of theNA’s 5th session.

The opinions and petitions were summed up in a draft report to besubmitted to the NA’s 5th session, which was discussed at the NAStanding Committee on May 15 during its 24th session.

The draft report said voters and people across the country approved thedrastic and creative measures undertaken by the Government and Prime Ministerin managing socio-economic development. They hailed the positive andcomprehensive changes across the fields in the first months of this year.

The voters and people continued to have high expectations for thepolitical will and strong actions of the Party and the State in the fightagainst corruption and wastefulness, while acknowledging the specific andnoteworthy outcomes so far. Many serious and complicated corruption cases andeconomic crimes have been handled in a strict and transparent manner, even whenthey involved incumbent and former high-ranking officials.

However, the report noted that many cases only received attention andwere handled with the drastic guidance of the Party leader, the CentralSteering Committee for Anti-corruption and the Party Central Committee’sInspection Commission. Many sectors and local authorities have not made substantiveefforts in the fight.

Therefore, voters and the people called on the Party and the State topush forward with the battle against corruption and wastefulness at all levels.

Other issues that attracted public concern included social evils,serious crimes, cyber security and traffic accidents. Many opinions expressedanger at the law violations of some officials, including high-ranking ones, ofthe public security force.

The NA Standing Committee also heard a report of the Ombudsman Committeeon the handling of opinions and petitions before and after the 4th session of the NA.

Head of the Ombudsman Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai said among 1,993voters’ petitions sent to the Government, ministries and ministerial agencies,1,474 (73.96 percent) received responses in the form of information provision;162 petitions were solved and 357 are being processed.  

NA Standing Committee members noted remarkable improvements in thesettlement of issues raised by voters. A number of ministers spent time toinstruct the handling of received petitions, resulting in the thoroughsettlement of many petitions. Meanwhile, the ministries and sectors have builtroadmaps to address 83.5 percent of unsolved questions, which the StandingCommittee hailed as a great effort, demonstrating the resolve of theGovernment, ministries and sectors in removing obstacles and facilitating dailyactivities, production and business.   

Citing the fact that 1,474 (73.96 percent) of petitions were addressed inthe form of information provision, Chairman of the Ethnic Council Ha Ngoc Chiensaid the people lack information on the Party and State policies, guidelinesand laws. He said the popularization of legal information should be promoted inthe time to come.-VNA
