More food safety inspections scheduled for holidays

HCM City (VNS/VNA) - The HCM City Food Safety ManagementBoard has set up 12 inspection teams to ensure food safety andhygiene during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

Pham Khanh Phong Lan, head of the city’s Food Safety Management Board, said theboard had drawn up a plan to enforce food safety laws and regulationsduring the period.

The inspections, to be conducted from January 1 to March 25, will tradein fake and low-quality goods, and reduce the number of foodpoisoning cases.

The board will ensure strict supervision of food production andtrading businesses, food packaging, and food processing and cateringservices.

Authorised agencies will focus on inspecting large food andbeverage importers and producers, wholesale markets, trade centres,and catering establishments, especially food processing villages.

Establishments that import and trade foods, food additives, and food packagingmaterials and tools will also be closely inspected.

Traditional items for Tet such as biscuits, candy, alcohol, meat,seafood eggs, and more will receive more attention as well.

Random, unannounced inspections will be made based on agency decisions andinformation gathered from various sources.

In addition, the city will better inform the public and enterprisesabout food safety and hygiene regulations, and offer advice aboutselecting, preserving and processing food.-VNS/VNA
