Missing-in-action US servicemen’s remains repatriated

A ceremony to repatriate remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam was held at Da Nang International Airport on December 11.

Da Nang (VNA) - A ceremony torepatriate remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam was heldat Da Nang International Airport on December 11. 

The event, the 147th of its kind, was jointlyorganised by the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and the DefencePOW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) of the US.

The Vietnamese Government’s representatives handed over tothe US side three sets of remains believed to be of American servicemen missingin action during the war in Vietnam.

The remains were found in the central provinces of Nghe An, Quang Binh and ThuaThien-Hue during the 133rd Joint Field Activities with the engagementof 76 US experts and over 200 Vietnamese people. They will then be brought toHawaii, the US, for further review.

According to the US Ambassador to Vietnam, in addition to seeking the remainsof American servicemen missing during the war, the US Government hascoordinated with Vietnam in providing information on Vietnamese missing inaction as well as in addressing dioxin-related problems at Bien Hoa and Da Nangairports, and clearing bombs and mines in the central province of Quang Tri.

2018 marks 30 years of Vietnam-US cooperation in searching for the remains ofUS servicemen who died during the war. The activity reflects the strongcollaboration between the two countries in humanitarian issues.-VNA
