Lai Chau (VNA)🃏 – Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Pham The Tung on April 24 led a delegation to Nam Xe commune, Phong Tho district, the northwestern province of Lai Chau, to present funding in support of the locality's programme to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated houses for ethnic minority communities in mountainous areas.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Tung reaffirmed the Party, State, and ministry’s special attention to Lai Chau, noting that aside from helping with eliminating substandard houses, the ministry has also assisted in improving education infrastructure and living conditions for locals. He emphasised that the housing programme reflects the public security force's material support as well as sense of responsibility towards and solidarity with the people.
The provincial Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security jointly launched a 70-day campaign to accelerate housing construction efforts, with a target of eliminating all substandard homes in the province by June 25, 2025. The ministry called on the entire local police to collaborate closely with other forces and people to accelerate the programme while ensuring quality and safety. So far, Lai Chau has completed nearly 68% of its plan, building or repairing 4,782 out of the 7,064 targeted homes, with more than 277 billion VND (over 10.6 million USD) mobilised. The Ministry of Public Security has contributed funding for 1,100 new houses, worth 66 billion VND raised from philanthropists.
However, the province still faces a funding shortfall of nearly 38 billion VND to complete the remaining 784 homes and has requested additional support from central authorities. From 2021 to 2024, the ministry implemented several housing support projects in Lai Chau, including Projects 245 and 645 that benefited over 1,600 households in Muong Te and Phong Tho districts. At the ceremony, symbolic house keys and gifts were handed over to 10 families. The delegation later visited and presented gifts to two newly resettled households in Nam Xe commune./.
