Mid-Autumn Festival kick-started in Singapore

More than 2,000 lanterns of all colours, shapes and sizes were lit up on September 15 across Chinatown in Singapore to kick-start the one-month 2015 Mid Autumn Festival. The ceremony was attended by Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, local officials and crowds of residents.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the annual event reflects the cultural and ethnic diversity of the country.
The highlight is a 12-metre-high merlion shaped lantern lit up throughout the year to mark the 50th anniversary of the National Day of Singapore (August 9). A number of traditional art and fashion activities will also be organised through October 12, according to the organising board.-VNA
