Men’s and women’s football teams leave for SEA Games 30

Both men’s and women’s U22 national football teams of Vietnam left for the Philippines on November 22 afternoon to compete in the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 30).

Hanoi (VNA) – Both men’s and women’s U22 national football teams ofVietnam left for the Philippines on November 22 afternoon to compete in the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 30).

Thesquads have set the target of winning the gold medals at SEA Games 30.

The male team’s head coach Park Hang-seo brought with him 21 players, including a thirdreserve goalkeeper.

Vietnamwill play against Brunei on November 25 in the opener of Group B which alsoincludes Laos, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.

Meanwhile,head coach Mai Duc Chung on November 21 finalised his 20-strong women’s squadthat includes two goalkeepers, six defenders, nine midfielders and threestrikers.

Theteam has just finished a 10-day intensive training camp in Japan and Chung waspleased with the progress of his players.

Vietnam,who won the AFF Championship in August, are in Group B and will play Thailandin the first match on November 26 and then Indonesia three days later at BinanStadium in Laguna. Group A gathers Myanmar, Malaysia and the hosts.

Theteams will compete in a round robin format and the two best of each group willadvance to the semi-finals. The final is scheduled for December 9.

Twoyears ago in Malaysia, women’s football featured only five teams, competing ina round robin format. Vietnam triumphed after taking top place on goaldifference over Thailand./.
