Memorial service held for deputy leader of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha
A memorial service was held at Lang Cat Pagoda in Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province, on September 1 in commemoration of Most Venerable Danh Nhuong – Deputy Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS).

Kien Giang (VNA) – A memorial service was heldat Lang Cat Pagoda in Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province, on September 1 incommemoration of Most Venerable Danh Nhuong – Deputy Supreme Patriarch of theVietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS).
On the funeral days of the most venerable, alsoknown as Agg Maha Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja Nanadhammo, nearly 500 delegationshave paid homage to him and offered condolences.
President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and President ofthe Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Tran Thanh Man also sentwreaths in commemoration of the late monk.
On August 31 afternoon, Deputy Prime MinisterTruong Hoa Binh led a Government delegation to pay respect to Most VenerableDanh Nhuong, who was also a member of the Presidium of the VFF CentralCommittee.
Danh Nhuong was born on June 7, 1929, in MinhLuong commune of Chau Thanh district, Kien Giang province and became a monk atthe age of 16.
He passed away on August 26, 2017 at Lang Cat Pagoda.
During the war against the US, he took part inthe revolutionary movement in Rach Gia township, leading tens of thousands ofmonks and Khmer Buddhist followers in Kien Giang to struggle for war end andnational reunification.
After the south liberated and the nation reunifiedon April 30, 1975, the most venerable was elected to leadership positions inthe VBS and the VFF Central Committee. He also served as a deputy in theNational Assembly of the 11th and 12th tenures.
He devoted his entire life to Buddhism and thenation, greatly contributing to national development and the great nationalunity bloc.
In honour of Danh Nhuong’s dedication, theVietnamese Party and State and the VFF Central Committee presented him with theIndependence Order (first and second class), the Resistance Order (thirdclass), the “For the Cause of Great Unity” medal, along with many other noblerewards.-VNA

A Buddhist Cultural Fortnight began at Pho Quang pagoda in HCM City on August 21 to mark the Vu Lan festival which is held annually in the seventh month of the lunar calendar to pay tribute to motherly love.
