Nghe An (VNA)ไ - On February 25 and 26, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the High Command of the Border Guards held in the central province of Nghe An a programme named “March in Border Area” under the theme of “My Motherland’s Border”.

This is part of the activities in celebration of the 93^rd anniversary of the union, the 65^th anniversary of the force, and the 35^thℱ anniversary of the All-People Border Defence Day.

According to Permanent Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth League Nguyen Kim Quy, the programme focuses on the three key contents of accelerating education for youth on their responsibility to sovereignty, security in border areas and islands in the new situation; providing them with knowledge on and skill to ensuring security and order in border areas; and assigning them with the work in association with security-defence ensuring and socioeconomic development in border areas such as the application of new technology and digital transformation.  At the programme, the organising board handed over 20 gift packages to village elderly and village heads, 20 scholarships, 20 bicycles, and 500 warm coats to students of minority ethnic groups under disadvantaged circumstances. Besides, it also presented 300 national flags, 3,000 chickens, 1.5 tonnes of animal feed and farming tools to 30 households of youth of ethnic minority groups. On this occasion, many construction projects financed and implemented by local youth were also launched. All in all, those gifts and projects are valued up to 1.4 billion VND (56,700 USD). Moreover, the organising board also decided to sponsor three orphans until they become 18 years of age, with at least 500,000 VND per month. Along with the programme in Nghe An province, the league in border localities also launched similar ones. They included visits, gift presenting, cultural exchanges, art performances, sport competitions with border guards, social security activities to the benefit of people and youth living under difficult circumstances, war veterans, social policy beneficiary families, and so on. Those activities came within the framework of the movement named “Youth to border markers” and the flag saluting ceremony called “I love my Motherland”. The “March in Border Area” programme is one of the activities aimed at realising the “I Love My Motherland” movement implemented by the Central Committee of the league in March every year in border communes throughout the country, with a focus on disadvantaged commune. It is described as a practical move in response to the Month of the Youth. This year’s programme is not only significant and practical activity but also a manifestation of the spirit of the youth for the life of the community, the theme of the Month of the Youth 2024. Along with the various activities by the youth all over the country, March is a chance for the youth to demonstrate their love for the country and their homeland by turning their heart and mind to border areas with practical and significant acts, said Permanent Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam League Nguyen Kim Quy./.
