Jakarta (VNA) –
Malaysia’s ForeignMinister Saifuddin Abdullah is visiting Indonesia from July 20-23 to reinforcethe strong bonds of friendship between the two countries for the prosperity oftheir people.

According to a press statement from theMalaysian Embassy in Jakarta, this is the first working trip to Indonesia byAbdullah after being appointed foreign minister on July 2 under the governmentof Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

Abdullah is scheduled to meet with Indonesia’sPresident Joko Widodo on July 23 and then with his Indonesian counterpart RetnoMarsudi on the same day to discuss bilateral matters and a new cooperationstrategy.

At the meeting with Marsudi, the foreignministers will talk about various issues of interest, including diplomaticsteps to be taken by Indonesia and Malaysia in dealing with the discriminationagainst palm oil products in the region of the European Union.

In addition, the two foreign ministers willdiscuss efforts to negotiate the shared border region, according to Director ofSoutheast Asian Cooperation of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry Denny Abdi.

In relation to the proposal for jointdevelopment of border areas, Abdi noted that the Indonesian government believesthat both countries should address overlapping claims in border areas throughnegotiations.

The two countries are also interested inpossible cooperation in management and development along the border region.-VNA
