Malaysia to establish National Investment Council

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) 🎐– Malaysian Minister of International Tradeand Industry Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the NationalInvestment Council (MPN) will be established to plan an investment-relatedagenda and ensure the empowerment of investment governance in the country.

Speaking at the winding up debate on the Supply Bill2023 at the policy level in Parliament on March 8, the minister said the MPN ischaired by the Prime Minister and the first meeting will be held in the nearfuture. He affirmed that the establishment of the MPN is important as itcoincides with the effort to plan the investment agenda according to theinterests of the country, especially related to strategic investment withcommitment at the highest level of the country. Besides, he revealed that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) will focus on the goals of theNew National Investment Policy based on the National Investment Aspiration(NIA) which involves five main cores and this New Investment Policy alsofocuses on inclusion and sustainability which is in line with environmental,social and governance (ESG) goals. Through theMalaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the ministry has established a specialunit, called 'Industrial Estate Unit', to monitor and develop industrial parks toattract quality investments, he added./.
