Malaysia, RoK hold 8th round of negotiations on bilateral FTA

The two sides plan to focus on making negotiation progress across 10 sectors, including goods, services, investment, and economic cooperation.

Seoul (VNA)🐟 – Malaysia and the Republic of Korea (RoK) kicked off their eighth round of negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) on April 8 as they seek to broaden their trade portfolio and enhance cooperation.

The latest round of talks on the FTA, held in Seoul, is scheduled to last for four days, according to the RoK's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The two sides plan to focus on making negotiation progress across 10 sectors, including goods, services, investment, and economic cooperation, the ministry added.
Following a five-year hiatus, the countries agreed to resume talks on a free trade deal in March 2024.
The RoK already has an FTA with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), but it is seeking to forge separate free trade deals with individual members, including Malaysia. The RoK's exports to the bloc have surpassed its shipments to China for the second consecutive month in March amid an expansion of global trade protectionism./.
