Malaysia again tops the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2021 as the best destination for Muslim travellers even amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysia again tops theGlobal Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2021 as the best destination for Muslim travellerseven amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

GMTI said in its 2021 report that as the pandemic wreaks havoc on the tourism industry, somedestinations are said to have prepared for relaunch once the borders open.According to the report, these destinations have Muslim-friendly facilities andservices, and have continued to raise stakeholder awareness in capacitybuilding and destination marketing to overseas markets of Muslims even in timesof pandemic.

Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Nancy Shukrisaid Malaysia is committed to continue developing the Muslim-friendly travelsegment, sometimes referred to as halal travel.

The minister also highlighted that Malaysia offers manyHalal-certified eateries which cater to the needs of Muslim travelers, as well as many tourism-related activities that does not contradict with Islamicprinciples as the country being a Muslim majority country.  

She said it is important for Malaysia to preparefor the reopening of the tourism industry and the resurgence of Muslim touriststo the country./.
