Hanoi (VNA) – Malaysianauthorities have rescued 140 live pangolins in crackdowns on wildlifetrafficking near Malaysia's border with Thailand. 

The pangolins were seized on November 6 intwo separate raids in Malaysia’s northern state of Kedah.

In the first incident, a Malaysian man wascaught with 85 pangolins in the town of Changlun near the border with Thailand.Later, Malaysian officials stopped a Thai man at a roadblock near a crossinginto Thailand and found 55 sacks, each containing a live pangolin, and bagsfull of scales.

Officials did not give an estimate for thevalue of the seized animals.

As the world's most heavily traffickedmammals, pangolins fetch a high price on the black market as their meat isprized as a delicacy and their body parts are used as ingredients intraditional medicine in parts of Asia and Africa.-VNA
