According to Malaysia’s I nspector-General ofthe Police, Khalid Abu Bakar, Malaysian authorities unearthed the gravesin Wang Kelian, a forest near the Thai-Malaysian border on May 11 aspart of the special operation “Ops Wawasan Khas.”

At a press conference held in Wang Kelian, Khalid said it was stillunclear how many bodies were buried in the graves as excavations onlycommenced on May 25.

The police operation was launched to investigate human trafficking camps set up in Malaysia by human trafficking gangs.

On May 1, Thailand discovered large graves near the border and 33 excavated bodies of alleged migrants.

Last weekend, Indonesia and Malaysia agreed to receive 7,000 refugeesfrom Bangladesh and the Burmese ethnic minority group Rohingya.

Malaysian Deputy Minister of Health Hilmi Yahaya said on May 25 thatMalaysia would conduct medical tests on the Rohingya migrants uponarrival to ensure the safety of Malaysian citizens.-VNA
