Malaysia detains 10 Vietnamese fishermen

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said Malaysia detained 10 Vietnamese fishermen on charges of illegally fishing in waters off Sarawak state.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian MaritimeEnforcement Agency (MMEA) said Malaysia detained 10 Vietnamese fishermen on chargesof illegally fishing in waters off Sarawak state.

The Vietnamese fishermen, aged between 18 – 45, were seizedon October 10 in the waters around 206 nautical miles off the Port of Tanjungto the northeast, according to Sarawak MMEA Director Shahref Steve MacQueenAbdullah.

The MMEA also seized one fishing vessel and 200 kilogrammesof fish.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia is verifying the case.

Last month, the MMEA also announced the seizure of two Vietnamesefishing vessels and 21 fishermen in Sarawak waters.-VNA
