Malaysia chairs international conference on Rohingya

An international conference on Myanmar’s ethnic minority group Rohingya opened on March 14 in Malaysia, attracting the participation of 180 speakers and delegates from ASEAN and Muslim countries.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Aninternational conference on Myanmar’s ethnic minority group Rohingya opened onMarch 14 in Putrajaya city, Malaysia, attracting the participation of 180 speakersand delegates from ASEAN and Muslim countries.
The three-day conference is jointly held bythe Institute of Public Security of Malaysia, Amal Foundation of Malaysia, theInternational Federation of Relief and Development, and the International Unionof Muslim Scholars.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, VicePresident of the International Union of Muslim Scholars Hadi Awang said theworld community, through various international organisations such as UnitedNations, Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and non-governmentalorganisations, should take prompt actions to restore the rights of the Rohingyaminority. 
Rohingya people should be allowed to receiveassistance while their children should be given opportunities to receiveeducation in any circumstances, he added.  Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak isexpected to give a speech at the closing ceremony on March 16.-VNA
