Malaysian authorities said on November 21 that they have busted the country’s largest-ever online investment scam syndicate with the arrest of 680 Chinese nationals in a single raid.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian authorities said on November 21that they have busted the country’s largest-ever online investment scamsyndicate with the arrest of 680 Chinese nationals in a single raid.

A team of 150 officers stormed a six-story office building in Cyberjaya, the"Silicon Valley" of Malaysia near Putrajaya on November 20, arresting680 Chinese nationals aged between 19 and 35.

They seized 8,230 mobile phones, 174 laptops and 787 desktop computers.

This is the largest number of arrests from a single operation this year, ImmigrationDepartment Director General Khairul Dzaimee Daud told reporters.

All are believed to be conducting online scam activity targeting mainlandChinese, he said, adding the authorities suspect the activity has been ongoingfor six months./.
