 Malaysia and Brunei will continue fostering bilateral ties in the aspects of common interest and for mutual benefit, Malaysian media reported on August 11. During the 19th Annual Leaders’ Consultation in Brunei’s capital of Bandar Seri Begawan, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah attached the significance to bolstering the strategic cooperation between the two nations.
In their joint statement, the two sides expressed their pleasure at the developments in the demarcation of Malaysia-Brunei border. The document also noted the establishment of the Brunei-Sarawak tourism mission to promote the respective tourism potentials as well as the safety and security of the two countries.
The two sides also geared up towards promoting the agricultural collaboration between Brunei and Malaysia’s Sarawak State in rice production, animal breeding and aquaculture. Regarding to the East Sea issue, PM Najib highlighted the special solidarity among ASEAN nations as the key to solve the matter through negotiations in line with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). He expressed hope that the next negotiations will ensure peace and freedom in the East Sea, contributing to the prosperity and stability of the region.-VNA
