Malaysia arrests seven Abu Sayyaf-linked suspects

Malaysian police said on September 21 that they have arrested seven Filipinos suspected to be members of the Abu Sayyaf militant group.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysian police said on September 21 that they havearrested seven Filipinos suspected to be members of the Abu Sayyaf militantgroup.

National policechief Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the seven men, aged between 22 and 38, werecaptured in a counter-terrorism crackdown on September 14.

These suspects workedas security guards with private companies in Kuala Lumpur and surroundingareas. One of them, 22 years old, had previously engaged in battles againstFilipino troops and kidnappings in the southern Philippines.

The Abu Sayyaf groupnow has about 400 Islamist militants, who are notorious for bombings, ransomkidnappings and beheadings in the southern Philippines.-VNA
