Malaysia: 324 people detained in anti-drug operation

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – A total of 324 people werearrested in an operation conducted by the Penang National Anti-Drug Agency atseveral entertainment centres and night clubs on April 9.

The operation drew 130 officers from numerous agencies,including the Immigration Department, People’s Volunteer Corps, and theMalaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

According to Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed, amongthe 250 men and 74 women detained, 83 tested positive to different kinds ofdrugs.

More than half of the detainees are under-aged, he said,adding that the local authorities should take stern action against owners ofentertainment outlets for allowing underage children to enter their premises.

Nur Jazlan also noted that the arrested group includedgovernment and security officers.-VNA
