Hanoi (VNA) – The Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (Vusta) on August 18 transferred one Malayan bear weighing 50 kilograms to the Tam Dao Bear Rescue Centre.

This is the second bear transferred by the ENV from the beginning of this year.

On August 8, the ENV was contacted by an animal protection organisation about a person in Xuan Truong district, Nam Dinh province, who voluntarily handed in a Malayan bear that had not been attached with tracking chip.

Earlier, in March, 2016, a Tibetan bear was transferred to the Hanoi animal rescue centre from a family in Son La. A family in Tu Mo Rong district, Kon Tum province also handed in a rare gibbon.

The ENV said this is a welcoming signal on the changes in people’s awareness towards raising wild animals; it is estimated there are still nearly 1,000 bears caged in the whole country.

The centre hoped that more and more bears wil🍬l be voluntarily transferred.-VNA

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
