Originating from a deeply humanitarian policy of the Party and the State, the programme to do away with makeshift and dilapidated houses is gradually turning the dream of stable housing and livelihoods into reality for hundreds of thousands of poor citizens.
The programme, led by the provincial Steering Committee, is being implemented in two phases. Phase one covers 246 homes, including 117 new units and 129 repairs. Phase two targets an additional 191 homes.
Under its plan, the province will build and repair 971 homes in 2025, including 188 for people with meritorious service, 695 for poor and near-poor households, and 88 for other disadvantaged families.
The housing programme reflects the public security force's material support as well as sense of responsibility towards and solidarity with the people, said an official of the Ministry of Public Security.
Vietnam has so far replaced 195,068 makeshift and dilapidated houses, including 20,444 for people who rendered service to the revolution, 62,116 under two national target programmes, and 112,508 under the campaign on elimination of substandard houses.
Quang Tri province currently has 7,369 households needing housing support, including 4,214 requiring new homes and 3,155 in need of repairs, with an estimated total budget of over 361 billion VND (13.98 million USD).
As of February this year, thousands of homes had been either newly constructed or renovated across the province. Under a programme calling for concerted efforts serving the work, the goal is to completely replace 8,485 local substandard dwellings.
