Hanoi (VNA) – DeputyMinister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam has askedlocalities to pay special attention to directing production activities andensuring the supply of plant varieties and breeding stock to farmers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing a conference to reviewoperations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD)’s SouthernWorking Group on September 9, Nam, who is also head of the group, underlinedthe need to design production plans during and after social distancing periodto maintain long-term and stable farm produce supply.
The working group will submit a reportto the Government's Special Working Group on an overall plan for the wholesouthern region, thus ensuring the coherence in localities’ directions onagricultural production, thus preventing the pandemic and maintainingproduction at the same time.
Representatives from the localitiessuggested that COVID-19 vaccine should be given to people engaging in agriculturalproduction chains, especially in the Mekong Delta region.
They proposed that theGovernment should subsidise 50 percent of plant varieties and breeding livestock for farmers to help them resume production.
Nam said that theworking group will give advice to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Government on theissuance of resolutions on supporting agricultural production.
The group will also work with theMinistry of Health to give guidelines to farmers in ensuring safety duringproduction, while asking the ministry to prioritise COVID-19 vaccination for peopleinvolving in agricultural production chains./.
