Liem ranks 2nd at Asian chess championship

- Top Vietnamese 𓄧chess player Le Quang Liem tied with Wei Yi of China in the seventh round at the ongoing Asian ജIndividual Chess Championship in Uzbekistan.

With four wins and three draws, No 1 seed Liem scored 5.5 points to finish second out of 91 players in the men’s category.
Grandmaster Liem will meet Adhiban B of India, who topped the rankings with the same score as Liem, in the next round. The other Vietnamese player, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, climbed 11 places to 7th place after beating Igonin Temur of Uzbekistan in the seventh round. He will play Ghem Maghami Ehsan of Iran in the eighth match.
Nguyen Huynh Minh Huy dropped 19 places from 23rd to 42nd place, as he lost to Begmuratov Alisher of Uzbekistan. Huy will now face Alisher’s teammate Vokhidov Shamsiddin. In women’s chess, Hoang Thi Bao Tram tied with Padmini Rout of India to rank seventh out of 35 players. Vo Thi Kim Phung scored a surprise win over Guo Qi of China to place eighth. Tram will now play Abdusattoro Bakhora of Uzbekistan. Phung will face Vietnamese Pham Le Thao Nguyen in the next round.-VNA
