Latin American films to entertain Hanoians

A number of films featuring Latin America will be shown to a Vietnamese audience from October 6-11 in Hanoi.
A number of films featuring Latin America will be shown to a Vietnamese audience from October 6-11 in Hanoi.

The event is co-organised by several Latin American embassies,including the embassies of Argentina, Cuba, Haiti and Venezuela.

Venezuelan Ambassador Jorge Rondón Uzcateguisaid the film week aimed to bring Latin American cinema and culturecloser to the Vietnamese audience. He recommended that Vietnam andVenezuela cooperate in making films in the future.

He said he hoped the two countries’ film industries work together tomake a film on Nguyen Van Troi, a young Vietnamese hero during the waragainst the US, who is well-known amongst the Venezuelan people.

According to Mexican Ambassador Gilberto Limón Enríquez the event ispart of a series of activities to promote Latin American culture inVietnam. He also said he hopes that the films would be screened ontelevision so that the Vietnamese audience can access the art of makingfilms from the region.

Meanwhile, Jean Lesly Benoit,Haitian Ambassador said the Latin American Week is among activitiesaiming to boost cultural exchange between Vietnam and Latin America ingeneral and between Vietnam and Haiti in particular. More eventswill be held, including a Haitian Cultural Week slated for January 2015.

The second Latin American Film Week will take placeat Cinematheque, 22A Hai Ba Trung street in Hanoi. It will openwith “To fool a thief” by young Argentinean director Ariel Winograd.

Additionally, “Bolívar, Man of difficulties” fromVenezuela and “Toussaint Louverture”, which tells the story of theleader of the Haitian slaves during the war against the French, arealso being screened.-VNA
