Hanoi (VNA) – With anthrax outbreaks reported in neighbouring countries, Lao authorities have intensified surveillance of livestock herds across multiple localities, closely monitoring animal health and movements to stave off any risk of contagion.
Livestock farming, particularly in large farm districts, are being closely monitored with strict inspections on animals' origins and health before and after slaughter, ensuring immediate disposal of any diseased animals to maintain food safety.
Efforts are also underway to prevent livestock smuggling from neighbouring countries with outbreaks, said Sengphet Chanthasen, head of the livestock and fisheries sector under the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Vientiane capital.
No anthrax cases have been reported in Laos so far.
