Vientiane (VNA) – The Lao government has ordered that the LAK must be used intransactions that take place in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (SEZ)instead of CNY and THB which have been used widely in the area.

DeputyPrime Minister and Minister of Public Security General Vilay Lakhamfong madethe instruction during a recent visit to the Golden Triangle SEZ in Tonpheungdistrict of Bokeo province.

Vilayasked the SEZ management board to use the LAK when buying, selling, exchangingor paying for goods and services in the special realm. He stressed the need forproblems arising in the zone to be resolved in line with the guidance given byhigher authorities.

Headvised the Administration and Management Organisation and the Special EconomicZone Management Committee of Bokeo province to speed up the publication andimplementation of the Law on Foreign Currency Management within the zone, andto switch to the use of the LAK in the purchase and sale of goods and services,as part of government efforts to strengthen the value of the currency.

Inaddition, the Deputy PM also stressed the need to register workers in the zone,to manage Lao and foreign workers in a systematic and clear manner, and toallocate more jobs to Lao people.

He advised the zone management board to take action to counter humantrafficking, prostitution, cybercrime, illicit Internet operations, and themanagement of vehicles. Motorbikes and cars must be registered in line with theLao law, and all regulations complied with to ensure order, peace, security andunity throughout the country./.
